200 miles in 2 hours is impressive in my eyes. We love to slag our railways and yes they do have their faults.
These 225s are my childhood, used to ride these as a child with my nan over 30 years ago from Peterborough to York when they first arrived. The roar of these terrified me πŸ˜‚. Great video. πŸ‘

@kevinh96

Iconic trains that were never quite allowed to live up to their potential. They were designed for 150mph+ running and much of the East Coast mainline is capable of taking trains at those speeds, unfortunately the government cheaped out on the signalling systems required and today congestion is a huge issue so we're still stuck at 125mph maximum speeds.

@ChatGPT1111

I was an American stationed in the UK during '82-84 (RAF Woodbridge) and I used to travel on the 125's and to a lesser extent, the slower local trains quite a lot. I did Ipswich to Dundee about a dozen times and many other routes (Penzance, Glasgow, Cardiff, Liverpool) though not as often. Loved those trains as we in the U.S. had nothing near as fast as the 125. Great times. Much love from Florida.

@John-qq8he

In pre COVID times I used to make this journey every fortnight, usually on a 225. At that time a tasty James Martin menu was on offer. I always looked forward to the ride.

@Gus0898uk

The LNER Class 225 First Class seats are awesome.

@Somesayilooklikepeterkay

Amazing video Paul . I love the old British rail intercity 125/225 . I always use train pal for my tickets it's one of the best apps around

@EntertainmentWorldz

Good to see a New British train video! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

@guyavni3206

Amazing to see they named the engine after the late Sir Bobby Robson. Lovely gesture.

@scottmiller1577

I visit my mum in Peterborough a few times a year. I always try to get the 10:03 as I love to older style trains for comfort. Not much point doing 1st class though as it’s less than a hours travelling time

@jamessmith6402

Thanks Paul that was a lovely video πŸ‘

@Brandonplanespotter23

Such a good report, and I have now purchased my 16-17 saver railcard. Appreciated for the money off its going to be 100% worth it with my train travel.

@FalconsEye58094

I love seeing the old with the new, The new Azuma high speed trains in the classic old station

@freedomisslavery6840

'How Britain has changed in my lifetime' - I think the word you're looking for is 'deterioration' Paul.

@trainman86trainstramsandmore

Good to see a New British train video!

@jetawayjoe

Great video again Paul, yesterday I booked first class LDS-KGX so was good to see their offering. Wakefield native here too, can confirm Kirkgate Station is looking much better these days and passenger numbers have improved because of it, it used to be a no go area!

@sharko2517

I once got first class for free when i was travelling back to Leeds as the train had not enough seats and we were travelling as a school group. The intercity 225s will always be superior, i have never enjoyed a train journey more

@gerrib1633

Heading to the UK and Europe from Australia in one week. I’ll keep an eye out on my journeys for you!

@JBFlytography

I’m from just outside Edinburgh and took these for granted then they disappeared. Last time I was in London, I booked a return m to Peterborough and back just for a jaunt on them! πŸ˜‚ They’ll be missed when they go - probably dare I say it - more than HSTs.

@RogEdwardsTV

Those leather First Class seats are so much better than the newer ones on the Azuma. They β€œlook” classy as well as being comfy! πŸ˜€
