Diamonds are essentially worthless. The people in the business restrict supply dramatically, which keeps the price up. If all of the diamonds currently mined were dumped on the market, diamonds would be worth the same amount as any other stone.
This guys grandfather was Ernest Oppenheimer , when you visit soweto and get the tour of the Oppenheimer tower you will be told an honest story of how they got the bricks to build the tower .
