Residents match through a matching system, you can’t pick and choose a residency in the way conventional jobs do. It’s an educational position. So comments like “that’s business, or get a new job” do not apply here. Also, prestigious hospitals often pay less in general. Cost of living is not usually factored in.

Y'all don't realize how low pay and benefits has a negative effect on the healthcare system overall. Most of these struggling residents and fellows will choose fancier jobs and positions instead of clinics and communities where there is need.

So when you can't find a good primary care physician, specialist, or surgeon for your crappy health plan then think of this.

@aerohk

I'm confuse.
What's wrong with getting a 30k loan & student loan during residency, when a doctor's future earning is in the range of 500k to 1M+?
Isn't this in their understanding when they signed up?

@desalegneanteneh9555

He said $300 left to apply for food stamps. The best hospital in the world 😂

@user-eh2hj8bx6O

A lot of residents are poorly paid. If you don't think this struggle to pay bills doesn't affect whether they choose a clinic position or a cash only concierge medical service in the future then you don't know about "business."

We want good quality doctors to stay accessible. Treating them poorly drives them away.

For every Stanford resident there are hundreds of other residents being paid very little. This affects the whole country and our entire healthcare system.

@interwebzful

uh who reads paper journals these days? but it's true you never stop learning!

@robynvirts1387

We need our new doctors and medical staff..they should not have to suffer to do their residencies and support their families. Please do what is right !

@armoredghost6180

Did any of these people realize what they were getting themselves into?

@brianp5205

He was granted Residency at Stanford, one of the most prestigious schools, and is still complaining!?!?

@Hproawesome

is called business.
